Trail Creek to Happy Camp – 92 miles
I left the campground around 8:15 am after a chilly but uneventful night. I munched on trail mix since no food was available in Cecilville or Forks of Salmon in the
morning – maybe at lunch and dinner but it sounded iffy. Great roads and downhill all the way to Somes
Bar with about 5 cars going by me the whole way on a Friday morning.
A footbridge over the N. Fork Salmon that does not look too trustworthy.

This is a section of road and river below Cecilville. I talked with a couple guys who were on the porch of the only cafe in Cecilville around 9 am. They said it would be open in a "few hours" and the same comment was used for the one in Forks of Salmon. People sort of get to stuff when they feel like it out here.

The congestion was a few birds flying around I guess.

Siskiyou frustration....

Somes Bar grocery, right on the Klamath River, had a great
selection of cheeses and salami. I
enjoyed salami goat cheese rolls I made complimented with tortilla chips and iced tea. Talked with the owner (he looked around 35) about the business
there – he has owned the store for about 7 years, kayaks locally, and said business was decent. He commented on the Rivendells nice lug work and gave me some tips on camping so I decided something close to Happy Camp would be best since there was a decent pizza place there that would work for dinner.

The ride along the Klamath River on 96 was great. The traffic was fairly light and it was Fri afternoon - I just don't get it, but I loved the serenity, nice pavement, and looking at the river.
Ate dinner at the Pizza House in Happy Camp and had two pints
of Fat Tire beer. Camped at the Curly
Jack Forest Service campground and bathed in the Klamath. Funny how the mosquitoes did not like me as much once the sweat was washed off! Met Chuck from Paradise, CA at the campground. He told me stories of 100 mile training rides with a former RAAM record holder when he lived in Monterey. He does not ride anymore though he still has kept his Motobecane for sentimental reasons and "just in case" he wants to ride again.
